Abstract: The development objective of Earthquake Housing Reconstruction Project for Nepal is to restore earthquake-affected houses with multi-hazard resistant core housing units in targeted areas and to enhance the government's ability to improve long-term disaster resilience. Some of the negative impacts and mitigation measures include: (i) target female-headed households during the social mobilization process and provide them with additional technical assistance during the construction period; (ii) explore possibilities for legal agreements with landowners that also provide greater protections for the dalit's leasee with some statutory limitations on ownership claims; (iii) support indigenous peoples in setting up bank accounts and access to low-interest loans; and (iv) hold consultations with elderly people with disabilities in easily accessible areas.
