Generally, these standards provide a set of objectives and mandate or recommend specific means for compliance. They also specify items of evidence that have the potential for satisfying the objectives. However, safety standards vary between regions, domains, and technologies in terms of factors such as the level of prescription, the qualitative and quantitative nature of the safety requirements, and the relation between safety criticality and engineering rigor. This chapter examines these factors and discusses how they relate to fundamental concepts and practices in safety such as risk analysis and safety cases. This chapter concludes with example assurance principles for the safety approval of software systems and complex automotive applications. Handbook of Safety Principles RelatedInformationRead More
