Title: A Study on International Competitiveness of Medical Tourism Industry in Korea
Abstract: This study was intended to figure out international competitiveness of medical tourism industry in Korea. Analysis showed that our country secured international competitiveness of world supremacy in terms of high-quality medical manpower and hardware, but the cost efficiency of national medical services was quite low in terms of low weight of doctors and nurses, hospital visits per capita, and private health spending. Despite the aggressive investment in R&D for the medical-care industry, industrial competitiveness is still insufficient and its growth is early stages. Despite this limit, the medical service industry is very likely to grow due to the domestic and foreign needs for market environments and cost-effective medical services in aging society. We have competitive power in the levels and prices of our medical tourism service. However, we will have to establish systematic strategies to attract potential customers, as the medical institution's recognition lack of medical services for foreign medical tourists can be an obstructive factor.
