Abstract: A report on progress in an interview project that the author is undertaking as part of ongoing research into young Australians who travelled to England in the three decades after WW2. It follows work recently heard in an ABC Radio National program on Australian girls and the working holiday. Rather than the well-publicised experience of artists and intellectuals fleeing 'the perceived provincial backwater' of Australia in the 1950s, her interest was in more private individuals not so prominent in the historic record.
