Title: Efficient electric traction drive configuration for battery electric vehicles
Abstract: This paper presents an electric traction drive for battery electric vehicles (EVs). The various electrical and mechanical parts of EV are modeled and simulated using AVL-Cruise program. The suggested traction system depends on permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) powered from Lithium-ion battery through an electrical drive system. Power management and control (PMC) system is applied adopting a rule-based strategy. The electrical system is designed to satisfy the required high vehicle performance with long travel range and optimal usage of battery. The vehicle performance is assessed using the new European driving cycle (NEDC). Simulation results validate that the proposed traction system match the design requirements of the EV and achieve worthy operation with efficient usage of the vehicle's battery.
