Abstract: This chapter presents brief description about the assembly-breakup history cycles of the supercontinents and the orogens of Gondwana supercontinent. It introduces the Proterozoic orogens of India (POI), representing collisional sutures, which assume special significance in the form of a critical window in the context of supercontinent reconstruction models. An attempt has been made to emphasize the correlations and extensions of the shear zone/suture zone network of POI with those of other adjacent fragments of the Gondwana supercontinent. This is further substantiated with the recently available geochronological data to delineate the assembly and breakup history through different stages of Rodinia and Gondwana. Finally, it has been explained how the Gondwana orogenic systems currently offer us invaluable windows in unraveling the history of different supercontinents and the associated deep crustal processes.
