Title: EU-Africa Relations and Implications for Poverty Reduction in Africa
Abstract: The study examined how the EU policies in Africa have achieved the intended goals of helping the government to eradicate poverty. It sought to understand how the policies are formulated and implement and how the process promote or impede effective utilization of resources. The study further examined three policy intervention; rural development, microfinance and women in politics at the national level by looking at the major stakeholders who are involved in the selection and implementation of policies and programmes. Through the use of qualitative descriptive analysis, the research found that the rural development and microfinance programmes have contributed to the reduction of poverty in the beneficially community especially the southern zone where cocoa serves as the major cash crop. On the other hand the programme to promote women in politics has not had a positive impact on getting women into politics. Based on the findings the study suggests that there should be more effort on the part of the stakeholders to ensure efficient linkages between the institutions and the communities for effective utilization of resources.
