Title: Role of Singapore and Malaysian Stock Exchanges
Abstract: Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the role of Singapore and Malaysian stock exchanges. The role of a stock exchange is to facilitate the trading of existing securities and the transfer of ownership. Because of this trading facility, public investors are more willing to subscribe to new securities offered by companies coming to the new issue market for capital funds. The chapter describes the development, structure, and operation of the Stock Exchange of Singapore and the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange, the regulation of the securities industries, the activities in the new issue markets and the secondary markets, the costs and pricing of new share issues, the pattern of share ownership, and the financial characteristics of listed Singapore and Malaysian-incorporated companies and their capital investment decisions.
