Title: Numerical Modelling of Contact between Eelastic and Rigid Body
Abstract: Most engineering products are made up of assembled parts and some of these parts are mechanicaly joined. In order to predict accurately the strenght and reliability, or any other structural characteristic of the joints it is important to know the contact condition between them. Hertz first made a satisfactory analysis for the contact problem of two elastic bodies. A lot of research effort is currently focussed on the development of modern numerical algorithms for analysis of contact problems. There are several improvements in attempts to solve the general contact problem using the finite element computations with penalty method or Lagrange multiplier methods. In this paper, we presented the augmented Lagrangian approach to contact problems involving contact with friction. The description will be given in the following maner. The variational inequalityes of the frictional contact problem are linearized and solved by finite element incremental procedure. The contact cylinder with rigid plate is examined as ilustrative example. The results have been compared with Hertz solutions for contacts with and without friction.
