Abstract: During the war, he was a low ranking officer in the South Vietnam Army. After the war, he was arrested by the newly established government and sent to the re-education camp, where he was considered part of a cheap labor force to do heavy and often dangerous work with almost no food. All of his property was taken away due to communist policies. In 1980, he bought a boat and hired some sailors. He and his family then escaped to Hong Kong, and made their way from there to the United States.
