Abstract: This chapter discusses the vectors and matrices. It also presents the study of three-dimensional geometry and vector algebra in space. The length ||x|| of a vector x in space is the distance of its terminal point from the origin. Two important special matrices are the zero and identity matrices. A matrix of the form aI is called a scalar matrix. The real number a is identified with the scalar matrix al. Then, the number 1 is identified with the matrix I and the number 0 is identified with the matrix 0I = 0. In solving matrices by elimination method, there are two essential operations: (1) multiplying an equation by a nonzero constant, and (2) adding a constant multiple of one equation to another equation. Neither of these operations affects the solutions of the system.
