The work examines the construct of C2W and focuses on the use of offensive C2W (known as C2-attack) at the U.S. Army corps level of war. The thesis questions whether C2W is a viable construct, whether C2-attack operations can be conducted at the corps level of war, and whether the U. S. Army deliberate targeting doctrine is appropriate for this type of operation. The purpose of the thesis is to examine C2W at the corps level and determine if the deliberate targeting approach can be applied to C2-attack operations. The criteria used for assessment are: examination of present doctrine regarding C2W operations and analysis of historical examples of C2W operations. C2W gives the military a new and decisive tool for conducting operations, but carries limitations and considerations that commanders and staff must address. To ensure success, commanders and staff must understand the fundamental capabilities and the limitations that the C2W construct poses, along with the ability to apply this form of warfare in conjunction with a deliberate approach to targeting.Read More
