However, it is said that aerostatic bearings are prone to cause nanometer order of vibration due to low viscosity of air. Therefore, in order to achieve sub-nanometer order of accuracy in precision devices, bearings with larger damping coefficient is required to suppress very small vibration. In this paper, a water lubricated porous thrust bearing is proposed as a precision bearing with larger damping coefficient The static and dynamic characteristics of water lubricated porous thrust bearings were investigated numerically and experimentally.
