Abstract: If people want to invest in venture capital as one component of the overall asset allocation strategy, they need to find right firm to invest. This chapter first looks at some of the variables to consider in selecting a firm with which to invest. Many venture capital firms focus their investments on just one or two venture stages. This is a good way to begin the sifting-to-selection process. The chapter then describes the venture maturity and associated investment stages based on stage definitions in the 2015 National Venture Capital Association Yearbook. Some investors select a venture capital firm based on its focal industries. Some firms focus their investment activity in particular geographic regions. The region's outstanding universities and diverse industries create a wealth of intellectual capital- the seeds of venture capital. The chapter further offers an online investment portal because today's individual investors expect and demand its accessibility, convenience, and transparency.
