Title: Current Clinical Topics in Infectious Diseases 2
Abstract: This excellent little book, like the first volume in this new series, achieves the goal proposed in the Preface: “timely, concise summaries and critical commentaries … a true update of information in very specific areas of infectious diseases which require reevaluation.” Appropriate for the well-trained practitioner of both adult and pediatric medicine, as well as the infectious disease specialist, it brings together, for example, in an excellent chapter by John A. Washington II, the newest information on bacteriology and ecology of the coryneform bacteria, including Propionibacterium, and the role of these organisms in human infection. A masterful discussion of antimicrobial susceptibility tests and bactericidal assays is provided by Ernest Jawetz; and the latest information on otitis media by Jerome O. Klein. The recently much studied area of urinary tract infections in the female is put into perspective by Thomas A. Stamey; and the treatment of fungal meningitis is discussed in currently practical detail by John Bennett.
