Title: The Transmission and Multi-Level Interpretation of Narratives
Abstract: This paper examines one aspect of the relationship between the transmission and transformation of cultural heritage, with particular focus on the interpretation of a basic fiction narrative. Among the procedures used by interpreters, four contribute decisively to interpretative partitioning: single or multiple focalization (over one or several parts of the narrative), the generalized categorization of the singularities of the narrative (one singularity may fall into several categories), bridge building with one or more worlds of our symbolic environment (the worlds of the real, the lie, the religious, the utopian) and finally the articulation of statements. These pluralization procedures keep the reinterpretation of narratives open and relate to a major part of social reflexivity.
