Title: A urbanização e o tamanho dos municípios: a realidade brasileira
Abstract: The objective of this article is to analyze the current context of the urbanization of the Brazilian population, with emphasis on some characteristics of the municipalities. The focus is to discuss how the urbanization of the population can be understood from two aspects. The first involves the concentration of the urban population in the larger demographic municipalities, particularly those with more than 100 thousand inhabitants, which are privileged areas of population concentration. The second aspect has to do with urbanization in the less populous municipalities, that is, the rise of urban areas as a privileged place of residence of the population, also, in these smaller municipalities. The results allow to consider that the urbanization of the population in Brazil is a generalized process in all its space, regardless of the population size of the municipalities. To develop this analysis, data from the Demographic Census of 2010 are used, considering the 5,565 municipalities that existed in the period.
