Title: Quasi‐Born approximation scattering and inverse scattering of multiple scattering targets
Abstract: Conditions in which forward scattering of multiple scattering point-like targets behaves like Born approximation scattering are derived in the framework of the Foldy–Lax multiple scattering model. The derived quasi-Born approximable regime leads to a new prefiltering method which allows the solution of the inverse scattering problem for two targets without iterations, even though the corresponding forward map from scatterer to data is in general non-linear as a result of multiple scattering interactions. The developed methodology filters out, prior to the inversion, multiple scattering contributions in the data. The quasi-Born approximation data characteristics are elaborated in detail. The developed quasi-Born approximation scattering theory is found to be relevant also for specialised scatterers that are constituted by a dominant target surrounded by weakly scattering targets which can be continuous such as lines and surfaces.
