Title: EFFICACY OF NEEM (Azadiracta indica J.) PRODUCTS AGAINST POD SUCKING BUGS OF COWPEA IN SAMARU, NIGERIA
Abstract: The efficacy of different neem products against pod sucking bugs of cowpea was investigated at Samaru, Zaria. The design used was Randomized Complete Block Design. Four treatments were used namely, neem seed extract, neem stem bark extract, neem leaf extract and a control, where there was no insecticidal spray. The treatments were replicated four times. The result showed that neem products had effectively controlled the pod sucking bugs of cowpea. The products had reduced the population of the bugs, reduced the number of damaged pods and increased the yield of the cowpea. However, neem seed extract was found to be more effective, followed by neem stem bark extract and neem leaf extract. Therefore, neem seed extract should be recommended for the management of pod sucking bugs in cowpea Key words: cowpea, neem extract, pods, sucking bugs
