Abstract: Moral status is the designation given any entity deserving consideration, ethically speaking. Faced today with Western society's ideological polarization, and environmental crisis unfolding in the late Anthropocene, the stakes could not be higher as we rethink and readjust traditional attitudes toward and the boundaries of moral status, standing, and considerability. The conceptual question is consideration of what extent to which the entities on planet Earth, from individual species (including humans and their systems), ecosystems, biomes, the biosphere and the planet itself, possess instrumental value and/or intrinsic value. The practical issue is whether human society will ameliorate or accelerate the ecological crisis of the Anthropocene.
