Title: Sustainability - is it contagious? fairness in an intergenerational three-person dictator game with social interaction
Abstract: Experimental evidence indicates that in many situations non-monetary considerations affect people's economic decisions. In this paper I study a
modified dictator game with overlapping generations A, B; and C, where A takes an arbitrary share of a pie and passes the rest to B, while B divides the rest between herself and C. Besides a standard anonymous treatment, I introduce social interaction, once before and once after the decision process. In a further treatment I introduce a random element. I find that compared to the traditional two-person dictator game this intergenerational dictator game increases generosity. Social interaction further increases generosity. If subjects
B are uncertain whether they have received money from another person or by a random process, they become more parsimonious. In all treatments I observe that B indirectly reciprocates for A's behavior in the decision on how generous to be to C.
