In today's network environment, when a mobile user requests for online videos, it should be fetched from Content Delivery Network servers. The video has to pass through several gateways in the core network and base station in Radio Access Network before reaching user's equipment. This adds to video latency and sometimes request may be denied due to congestion in the wireless network backhaul. In this paper, a video popularity based cooperative edge caching alongwith a proactive cache updating policy is proposed with an aim to reduce the delay. Simulation of the proposed technique is performed using MATLAB and the results show that our co-operative caching scheme can improve the cache hit ratio by 13 percentage points compared to conventional cache replacement scheme LRU and by 2 percentage compared to edge caching without cooperation.Read More
