Title: The Supply Chain Centric Face of Organization
Abstract: This chapter aims to reveal the growing importance of supply chain management in contemporary business. In order to do so, the supply chain organization model was developed by utilizing various frameworks and ideas from market-oriented supply chain approaches. The main presumption of the supply chain organization is that companies within a given market should collaborate rather than compete. The supply chain organization requires a relational management approach in order to achieve its ultimate goal (the strategic goal of the supply chain organization must be value creation for the ultimate customer). The supply chain organization approach necessitates a new look at the role of purchasing. The role of purchasing is to procure inputs that will have a value-added impact for the products/services that are offered to the ultimate customer. Finally, this chapter ends with the future directions for research within the supply chain organization model.
