Abstract: This search had as its main objective to analyses the meanings of sports mega-events on publication of piauí magazine, a non-specialized sports media which discusses that subject in many articles and proposes a distinct dialogue with the public.Three of the biggest and most important Sports Megaevents at the present time that occurred in Brazil -2013 FIFA Confederations Cup, 2014 FIFA World Cup and 2016 Summer Olympic Games -were collected from September 2007 to August 2014.Based on Content Analysis some categories emerged: Nationalism, National Sovereignty, Adhesion and Resistance and Sports Legacy.About Nationalism, the Magazine calls attention to the opportunist uses of patriotic values to seal the event as an organization of the State. At the same time, it brings the comprehension that sport has significant impact on the construction of the National Identity, since it is an element of Popular Culture. In Brazil, soccer assumes this function.Concerning National Sovereignty, the magazine denounces the submission of the Country to the interests imposed by international Sports entities and their partners.According to piauí, the public-private relations are presented as an unbalanced equation that tends to benefit small groups of the elite businessmen. This relation generates a frustration that comes from the rupture regarding the expectations and effective gains that the Sports Mega-events brought to the country. The magazine publicizes a series of articles about the popular resistance which criticizes the exclusive way those Sports Mega-events were organized. Those articles approach the position of social movements and political groups that question politics made on traditional bases. Thus, the articles legitimize profile of political groups associated with social movements as, at the same time, they satirize conservative political movements.About the Legacy that those Sports Mega-events leave in Brazil, in material terms, the articles present discrete, sectored and contradictory benefits that are destined to a minority.Regarding immaterial terms, the magazine uses data related to previous Sports Mega-events that showed the increase of national pride and self-esteem, Nevertheless, those potential gains did not become effective in the Brazilian case. The conclusion of this research shows piauí's counter-discourse in relation to other national media and a Brazilain political project, focus on Government and Sport entities, that includes Sports Mega-events.
