Title: Necesidad de actividades de posgrado en licenciados en Enfermería de áreas clínico- quirúrgicas
Abstract: Background : nurses are concerned about providing quality care to patients and increasing their scientific and technical level by means of postgraduate education. Objective : to determine the needs of postgraduate education for nursing professionals in clinical and surgical areas, as well as in services of primary and secondary health care, from Las Tunas municipality. Methods : an exploratory, descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out. A survey was applied to 142 nurses with more than two years of experience looking after patients with medical and surgical conditions, from a universe of 425 professionals from the polyclinics of that municipality and two provincial centers: Carlos Font Pupo” nursing home and Ernesto Guevara de la Serna Teaching General Hospital from January to December, 2014. Results : the 55,6 % of the nurse sample has from 6 to 10 years of experience looking after patients with clinical and surgical conditions; 50,7 % of them work in secondary health care and a 49,3 % in primary health care; the 90,15 % did not receive sufficient preparation in their undergraduate studies; the 60,5 % are not satisfied with the current postgraduate system for nursing; only a 1,4 % has received training, and the 2,1 % received a workshop related to medical and surgical activities. Conclusions : the impending need of postgraduate activities for the professional development of registered nurses who work in surgical medical activities is evident.
