Title: A Microstructural Study of Phases in the Y-Ba-Cu-0 System
Abstract: In studies of high T{sub c} superconducting quatenary oxides, microstructural features were characterized in single phase samples of composition YBa{sub 2}Cu{sub 3}O{sub 7-{delta}} and multiphase samples of overall composition YBaCu{sub 2}O{sub 5.5-x}. Particular emphasis was placed on defects observable within grains by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Features observed include microtwins, precipitates, and stacking faults. These features are important as they might be used to pin the fluxoid lattice. X-ray energy dispersive spectroscopy (XEDS) revealed that some grains varied from the 1Y:2Ba:3Cu stoichiometry.
