Title: URBAN LANDSCAPE STUDY, RECOVERY AND CONVERSION OF ABANDONED AREAS
Abstract: Through this landscape study it is highlighted the nowadays more obvious urban degradation. The main reason is the indifference, but most of all, the human disregard, concerning urban landscapes, which are often referred to as ruins. But the duality of such places is unquestioned and the recovery is not only a path to value, but also a step towards landscape conversion. For this purpose, there have been studied several abandoned areas, such as railway tracks to point out the negative aspects, but also to cut out precisely these neglected features with a general landscape design. Converting abandoned spaces into public areas will point out the existing positive aspects and by doing so these spaces will be easily included in the category of urban facilities that encourage cultural, social and human leisure etc. Making reference to George Santayana’s words “Nature is the foundation, but the human being is the purpose”, it is revealed the basic relation between human and nature through this kind of landscape design; in our century the most important aspect is the social use of space, associated with the natural side. This type of urban recovery are a long term challenge, in the context of open spaces planning, which show in the end an improvement of life.
