Abstract: To mark the publication of A HISTORY OF THE JEWISH PEOPLE (Edited by Prof. H. H. Ben-Sasson, of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and published in this country by Weidenfeld & Nicolson at £20) The Jewish Quarterly arranged a Symposium with the participation of Professor Chimen Abramsky, Dr. Lionel Kochan and Dr. Isaiah Shachar. This was held at University College, London (by courtesy of the Institute for Jewish Studies) on November 11, 1976, within the framework of “Israel Book Week” 1976. Although the editor, in a preface to the original Hebrew edition, addressing himself to the “educated Jewish readers” Claimed the work as “positive evidence of the existence of a specific Jerusalem school of Jewish history” this claim is no longer maintained in the present edition.
