Abstract: Abstract The rhetoric of the conservative resistance movement exhibits a number of characteristics which are uncommon in persuasive discourse and in movement rhetoric. This study identifies these characteristics and illustrates them through an examination of the psychological origins and ideological statements of a particular conservative resistance movement—the West Virginia textbook protest.
