Abstract: Genetically modified crops, the definition of which is not fixed in the light of emerging technologies, have given rise to much controversy. Moral concerns are commonly distinguished as either intrinsic to the technology or extrinsic – related to possible risks and benefits. Different ethical approaches will deal with these concerns in different ways, but it is clear that issues of justice in distribution of risks and benefits, and not just their magnitude, are critical.
