Title: Citizen Participation in Environmental Policy Making in the Coastal Area
Abstract: Two critical gaps are suspected to separate the citizenry from the policy elites in postindustrial society: in policy relevant knowledge and in values concerning economic growth and ecology. They are said to prevent rational policy making. A cross-national study recently undertaken indicates, however, that the gaps feared are actually of the kind that support the proposition that citizen participation in environmental policy making is imperative.
