Abstract: Results from an Electric Utilities Demonstration Project survey concerning ways to restructure electricity rates and to implement load management practices are reviewed. The effects of time-of-use rates on electricity consumption of customers using more than 4000 kW/mo are evaluated. While some industrial electricity users changed their electricity use patterns to take advantage of cheaper off-hour rates, most customers met the problem of rate increases during peak hours by curtailing energy use. An analysis of load curves for customers with the same four-digit SIC codes indicates that neither load patterns nor the impacts of time-of-use rates are similar for the grouped customers. (4 graphs)
