Title: Take Me Back to the Village: African Women and the Dynamics of Health and Human Rights in Tanzania and Zimbabwe
Abstract: In June 1994, my mother received a letter saying that my brother Charles had lost a lot of weight. The letter from Charles's wife explained that the loss of weight may have been caused by the lack of good African food when Charles was in West Germany working for the national airline. My mother completed her yearly harvest and hurried to the city. In Harare, she stayed with Charles for a few days and when she noticed that the treatment for stomach pains and a persistent cough was working, she relaxed and started to enjoy her twice yearly visit to the city. My mother preferred to visit her children during the dry season when there was not much work to do in the village. Among the ten children, Charles was the most successful. He had just returned from an overseas trip with three Mercedes Benz cars, and his business in printing and publishing was making money.KeywordsAfrican WomanWorld VisionAfrican SocietyAfrican CultureWestern WomanThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
