Abstract: A Corps of Engineers study completed in 1988 analyzed this ramping phenomenon Mill Creek in Southern California Using an approach which combined sedimentation research with Corps experience on Mill Creek. Although very little research has been devoted to large sediment movement, the ramp formation was analyzed using the best available sediment discharge equation, adjusted with observed data. Ramp length was correlated with hydrograph size, and a vertical wall on top of the existing levee was chosen as the best prevention against ramp formation. Wall height was calculated based on the design flood ramp length.
