Title: A numerical approach to assess the capacity of rock-socketed piles subjected to axial compression in Mumbai region based on the pile load test data
Abstract: The best way to analyse the load–settlement response of a rock-socketed pile is by conducting a load test. However, due to support reaction and time limitation, it is not possible to conduct these tests up to failure. In this paper, a numerical approach to assess the interpreted pile failure load is presented. The load–settlement behaviour of piles socketed in rocks of Mumbai region is studied for 160 cases, out of which, 50 cases are presented here. The load–settlement data obtained from the non-failed tests are extrapolated using Paikowsky and Tolosko's method. The pile capacity is then estimated using different methods available from the literature. The suitability of the interpretation methods is also discussed.
