Abstract: As the opening quote of this chapter suggests, the relationship between disabled
people and social workers has had a long and diffi cult history. While new paradigms
of social work have emerged over recent years, the realm of disability-inclusive practice within the profession remains the ‘road less travelled’ (Morgan and Roulstone,
2012). This is a curious feature of social work practice, particularly given that other
areas of diversity and inclusion have been at the forefront of social work innovation
(see Briskman et al ., 2009).
