Abstract: In this book, we provided an introduction to important techniques and interesting applications of music similarity and retrieval. Although music information retrieval is a relatively young research field, it has managed to establish itself as a highly multidisciplinary area. The constant evolution of the field during the past decade has been driven both by academia and industry. It has led to mature techniques and appealing applications, ranging from industry-strength music fingerprinting and identification algorithms to creative user interfaces for browsing music collections and interacting with music; from techniques to automatically determine tempo and melody of a song from the audio to personalized music recommender systems.
