Title: Verification of a mathematical model of a proton exchange membrane fuel cell stack
Abstract: A brief overview of a method for mathematically modeling a fuel cell stack is presented with a comparison between output from a mathematical model of a Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) stack, developed using the described method, and experimental values obtained form an actual PEMFC stack. The PEMFC stack was constructed and instrumented to measure the temperature, pressure, and flow rates of the inlet and outlet gases as well as the temperature, potential and current of each cell in the stack. In addition, the overall voltage and current produced by the stack were recorded. A conclusion concerning the capability of mathematical models, developed using the modeling methodology, to predict actual fuel cell system performance is drawn and potential uses for math models of fuel cell systems are presented.
