Abstract: Corporate ‘free’ markets, with competition driving ongoing innovation, production where costs are lowest and transport to where monetarily effective demand is highest, have had particularly problematic consequences in the area of food production and distribution. Here we see a vicious contradiction between private property and need, with more than enough food for everyone today, but significant numbers of people going hungry because they have no money or power sufficient to access such resources, and the threat of many more going hungry in the future.
