Gender studies, the role of women in the history of music, sexuality, and the battle against sexism in music are discussed using the interpretations of musicologist Suzanne Cusick; Susan McClary; French composer Vincent d'Indy; Sir George Grove, editor of Dictionary of Music and Musicians (1882); and Gary Tomlinson of the music of Schubert and Beethoven's Ninth Symphony.
