Abstract: This chapter provides an overview of higher education for African Americans. It includes material about the history of African American education and the important role of federal legislation and court decisions in a sphere (education) that is largely left to the states. It provides an overview of science and technology education for African Americans. It discusses the important role of Historically Black Colleges and Universities. It also includes information about two organizations – the United Negro College Fund and the Thurgood Marshall College Fund – that are important funders of African American education generally.
