One of the biggest challenges in deep-sea zooplankton sampling is their low abundance, requiring large sampling volumes, which can usually be achieved only with net samplers. Multiple opening and closing nets are the standard tools for sampling deep-sea zooplankton, and examples of common gear types are described, along with some alternative methods for assessing zooplankton. Information is provided about ship requirements and gear operations in the deep sea, including the sampling of zooplankton close to the seafloor and collecting live specimens for experiments.Read More
