The composition of the species and genera as well as the number of specific and generic endemics on both archipelagos are presented. The fauna of the Madeiran Archipelago consists of 29 (+ 9 synanthropic), the fauna of the Socotran Archipelago of 35 (+ 4 synanthropic) species. Not a single species (apart from synanthropic ones) occurs on both archipelagos. The different age and the different origin of the Madeiran and Socotran Archipelagos implies questions about the way of colonization of these beetles. It will be discussed whether the faunal differences between both archipelagos refer to historical evolutionary events, and/or if these differences are caused by recent ecological factors.Read More
