Title: Force and Deformation Analysis of Beams, Curved Members and Rigid-Jointed Frames
Abstract: In the previous chapter we saw that, as the result of the application of external loads, only axial forces are produced in the members of pin-jointed plane and space frames. In a rigid-jointed plane frame, however, each member may be subjected to three internal forces consisting of an axial force, a shear force and a bending moment. In a rigid-jointed space frame there are six possible internal forces for each member: an axial force, two shear forces, two bending moments and one torque. The rigid-jointed space frame is outside the scope of this book, thus we shall confine our attention to plane frames subjected to in-plane loading.
