Title: The Limited World of the Constitutional Monarchy
Abstract: France was ruled between 1814–15 and 1848 by the monarchy that became more constitutional and through the agency of the notables. To understand their behavior after 1848, it is necessary to show how irrelevant republicanism and socialism were to their worldview while the constitutional monarchy lasted. Likewise, republicans did not expect to gain power and used humanitarian social reform and electoral reform as sticks to beat the monarchy with. The fall of the Monarchy was hastened by the concessions made by Louis-Philippe up to his abdication.
