Title: An Efficient Application of a Rule-Based System
Abstract: In Wimdas, a system for knowledge-based analysis of marketing data, two formalisms are used to express domain knowledge. Both user and knowledge engineer communicate with the system by way of an external knowledge representation, for instance the knowledge engineer uses it to formulate the rules of the Wimdas knowledge base. Wimdas’ inference engine uses an internal knowledge representation. The connection between internal and external knowledge representation is established by means of the maintenance module which applies several transformations to the set of rules to increase the efficiency of consultations of Wimdas’s knowledge base. This paper discusses some of these transformations.
