Title: Communicating Research from Start to Finish
Abstract: An important aspect of doing research is disseminating the findings. Tied to the ethical responsibilities of conducting research is the notion that any study undertaken contributes in some way to relevant questions in society — be they purely theoretical in nature, or of direct practical consequence. Theoretical studies add to the knowledge base in a particular area. In the case of the humanities, such an addition may inform a society about, for example, communal values or cultural practices that may be of historical or anthropological significance. In the sciences, findings will lay the bases for theories that may result ultimately, but not directly, in practical developments in technology, medicine and so on. 'Applied' studies either take a particular theory and use it to address a particular practical issue or work in the opposite direction, that is, derive theories from phenomena observed in real settings. In the case of clinical practice, the results directly relate to implementation of change. When undertaking research, one of the aims is to affect knowledge/social practice in some way, and in order to do this, the researchers must examine the optimal way(s) to disseminate their results.KeywordsPeer Review ProcessSpeech PathologyAcademic WritingLanguage DisorderCommunication DisorderThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
