Title: Research on Structural Similarity for Image Quality Assessment
Abstract: Objective quality assessment is important and widely used in image processing. Recently the Structural Similarity (SSIM) is proposed, and attracts a lot of attentions for its good performance and simple calculation. This method has a better performance than PSNR in many cases but fails to measure the badly blurred images. Then this paper proposed an improved objective quality assessment method, which based on contrast and structure may be the more important information than luminance for human to extract structural information from the blurred image. Experiment results show that this improved algorithm is more consistent with Human Visual System (HVS) than SSIM especially for blurred images.
