Title: Feminism and Human Rights at a Crossroads in Africa: Reconciling Universalism and Cultural Relativism
Abstract: Universal human rights are used to assert that universal norms or standards are applicable to all human societies. Yet women's freedom, dignity, and equality have been grossly eroded in law and in fact. Inequality emanating from cultural patterns deprives women of the opportunity of full and equal participation as citizens within their own societies and within international society.
