Title: Mission Gruvel sur la côte occidentale d’Afrique (1909-1910). Mollusques marins
Abstract: J'ai publié en 1910, dans les « Actes de la Société Linnéenne de Bordeaux », les résultats, au point de vue malacologique, des recherches de M. Gruvel pendant ses premières campagnes sur le littoral de l'A'rique Occidentale.Ses récoltes avaient été faites dans les régions comprises entre la baie du Lévrier etie Sénégal.Pendant sa campagne de 1909-1910, il a visité de nombreux points de la Côte africaine entre le Sénégal et l'Angola : il y a exploré Conakry et l'archipel de Los, puis la Côte d'Ivoire, le Dahomey, le Gabon, le Congo belge, le Benguella.Tous ces points lui ont fourni de précieux matériaux, et notamment de nombreuses formes encore inédites.Les cireonstances ne lui ont malheureusement pas permis de s'arrêter entre la baie des Tigres et le cap de Bonne-Espérance, de sorte qu'il ne nous est pas encore possible de nous rendre compte de quelle manière s'effectue la fusion de la faune de l'Afrique Australe avec celle de l'Afrique Occidentale.Tout ce que nous pouvons dire aujourd'hui, c'est que bien peu de mollusques du cap de Bonne-Espérance remontent jusqu'à l'Angola.Nous énumérons dans ce mémoire 519 espèces, dont 352 avaient déjà été citées dans notre première contribution.La campagne de 1909-1910 a donc fourni 167 espèces qui n'avaient pas été rencontrées précédemment par M. Gruvel, et 6o de ces espèces sont nouvelles.L'importance de ce dernier chiffre s'explique par le fait qu'on n'a guère pu draguer jusqu'à présent dans les parages parcourus par M. Gruvel en 1909-1910, à cause des nombreuses difficultés qu'on rencontre, en visitant successivement des pays de nationalités différentes, pour s'y procurer des embarcations et faire transporter du matériel d'un point à un autre.C'est ainsi que les recherches de M. Gruvel ont été contrariées dès le début parce que les dragues qu'il s'était fait adresser à Dakar ne lui sont jamais parvenues et qu'il a dû recourir à des engins de fortune.Nous devons lui savoir d'autant plus gré des résultats inespérés qu'il a réussi à obtenir dans des conditions aussi défavorables et seulement au prix des plus grands efforts.L'ensemble des récoltes effectuées par M.
